SUMMER 2006

A group of 4 children, two boys and girls aged between 12 and 14, arrived in mid June to stay for a month at Felin Fawr. They were joined in July by another two children staying also for a month with Roger and Sue Carey near Newport. The children came from Ossipovichy, and nearby villages Lapitchy, Vyzavonitsa, and Svislach. Once again summer days were spent learning to surf and improving swimming skills or just lazing on the beach and playing games as well as a variety of outings. In the last week of the visit we were joined by the Clear Voices Choir from Novopolotsk in Belarus. A world class choir, touring the UK to raise awareness of the Chernobyl disaster, they filled our hearts and minds with the most beautiful, deep and resonant tunes from the depths of the Russian soul. Sweet, melodious and with a incredible tonal range for an all girl choir of 26 they sang in St Davids Cathedral and at Tabernacle Pendre in Cardigan to help raise funds for the North Pembrokeshire Link. They left and enduring memory to those who were privileged to listen to them and our own Belarusian children were entranced by the depth and quality of the singing of their compatriots which they had never previously heard. It was indeed a most happy and sociable time we all spent together and the memories for our Belarusian children will last all their lives.
Huge thanks are due to all those who made this visit possible with accommodation (the choir were with us for four days) publicity, ticketing and catering, especially  Mr. John Hall  from St Nicholas and Dai Davies in Cardigan.

The confidence and ability of the children in the sea grows during the month. The  following video clip begins at the start of their visit on Newgale in moderate surf and ends at Abermawr with knee-grazing full swells from the Atlantic.
