SUMMER 2005
Two groups of children arrived at the
end of June and were here during July and August. Some had been before but there
were new arrivals as well. They were aged between the youngest at 11 1/2 and
going up through the teenage years. The weather was generally excellent and long
summer days were spent in outdoor activities, walking in the Preseli hills,
beach games, volleyball, outdoor barbecues, fishing, sunbathing, snorkelling,
and all the usual visits to Pembrokeshire castle, Ramsey Island, Oakwood, Castle
Henllys and Pembrokeshire sheepdogs.
One of the highlights of the trip was a chance to have a go at the controls of a
150hp RIB (under close supervision) courtesy of Mark Deane at Celtic Diving.
Travelling at 30 knots over open water is quite an experience.
Another highlight was a chance to go sailing with Bryon Alabaster. The sea and
its surroundings, cliffs, sandy bays, and all the sights and sounds are
completely new to many of the children that come to Pembrokeshire from Belarus
where their opportunities of travel are very limited. So it is always exciting
to observe their reactions. We spent some time in South Pembrokeshire exploring
the many small bays and amazing scenery around St Govan's Head.
All the children improved their swimming and were enthusiastic about surfing and
for some of the older ones there were English lessons.
Below are the two group photos. There is a picture gallery containing thumbnails
and enlargements of the some of the best photographs taken during the visit in
the photos page. All
the children return with a edited film of their activities and photographs of
the what they have been involved with.
