SUMMER 2004
A group of nine children arrived for
the summer. They were chosen from an older age group (12 to 15) because the
older children are only allowed to travel in the school holidays which in
Belarus run from the beginning of June to the 1st of September.
Summer days were spent on the beaches and in the sea and visiting many local
places that provided reduced or free entry.

It was a most enjoyable time made memorable by the contribution made by the
children themselves singing a combination of songs in Russian during a concert
we gave in aid of the charity. About 100 were in attendance in St Nicholas
village hall where we were treated to the superb folk guitar music and dulcimer playing
of Mr. Jim Couza. There is a short WMV video of the group singing a traditional
Belarusian song.
The translation for the song is
as follows:
Kupalinka, Kupalinka, the night is dark! Where is your daughter?
My daughter is in the garden cutting roses and pricking her fingers.
She is picking flowers and making wreaths, making wreaths and crying.
It was a very happy time together and the fine summer weather led us to
eating outdoors, playing volleyball together in the evenings and then late
evening swims.
