HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Ways to help.
1.We constantly need fundraisers (it costs between 5 and 7 thousand pounds each
year to bring a party of 12 or 14 children in February with and also at present
a smaller summer group). If you have experience of raising funds or know of
someone who does please get in touch. You might be available to help during
fund-raising days at fetes or shows etc. or you may possibly have an idea for
fund-raising. Please let us know.
2.We welcome donations that will sponsor an event that the children will attend
and we greatly value free or reduced admission to all sorts of venues. If you
can help in any way here it would be appreciated.
3.The assistance of local dentists for free dental check-ups for the children is
invaluable.
4.We welcome people who feel that they may have a talent they could use to
instruct or entertain the children on a single occasion for example artwork, or
nature studies, or surfing instruction. Normally the services of an interpreter
are available so language should not be a problem. Bear in mind that one of the
valuable spin-offs for the children aside from the health benefits, is that they
are seeing a different culture for the first time in their lives.
5.We receive help from Pembrokeshire County Council with the free loan of a
minibus during February. We could do with the use of a minibus in summer –July.
6.We collect items of clothing for 9 to 14 year old children in good condition
which they take back to Belarus.
There may be other ways you could help. Please just get in touch in the first
instance with Susan or Roger Carey
HOSTING.
The children are in Wales for a full month and require caring support normally
in a single host family. Occasionally some families can only host for part of
that time, so two families may be paired to provide continuity of the stay.
Each hosting family is vetted and must complete a CRB form (we will help you
with this) before the family can host a child. The charity has a policy that
single men are not allowed to host.
During the month’s stay activities are organised for the whole group of children
to take part in, on average about three/four times each week. These outings last
from about 10.00am to 3.00/4.00pm which gives host families an opportunity to
have a break. Having said that, host parents are more than welcome to join in on
all the outings except where the children are invited to local schools
Host families do not receive charity funds for the day to day expenses they
incur except in respect of additional clothing or shoes purchased for the
children, however host families are amply rewarded in seeing the children grow
in confidence and health during their stay.

DONATIONS
It costs approx £475.00 to bring each child to the UK for a period of one month. We
normally bring 15 to 20children over each year plus an interpreter. Accordingly
it can be seen that we have a need to raise in the region of £ 7500 each year.
We raise these funds throughout the year with a series of coffee mornings and
the sale of Russian craft items, a street collection, concerts, raffles and
through many individual donations from various groups in the local community.
